Resolution I-01-15

A Resolution supporting the Declassification of Columbus Day as a Federal Holiday and the establishment of a Native American Day.

Whereas:


 The Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma is a federally recognized Indian Tribe, organized pursuant to the Thomas-Rogers Oklahoma Indian Welfare Act, and has a Constitution approved by the Secretary of Interior; and
Whereas:


 The Business Committee has the power to speak or act on behalf of the Tribe in all matters on which the Tribe is empowered to act pursuant to Article V, Section 2 of the Tribal Constitution; and
Whereas:

 The Iowa Tribe does not recognize Columbus Day as a holiday but rather celebrates Native American day to honor our rich histories and cultures

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma supports the declassification of Columbus Day as a federal holiday; and

Be It Further Resolved that the Iowa Tribe supports the establishment of Native American day as a federal holiday.

CERTIFICATION

We, Lawrence Murray, Chairman of the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, and Phoebe O'Dell, Secretary, do hereby certify the above Resolution I-01-15 to be a true and exact copy as approved at a Special Business Committee meeting held on February 26, 2001 by a vote of 3 yeas, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions.
